Frequently Asked Questions

Who can Mingary Care help?

Mingary Care supports people on the Sunshine Coast and in Gympie who are dying and have a prognosis of 12 months or less, and the people around them. Support is not limited to a particular illness or diagnosis.

What kind of support can Mingary Care coordinate and fund?

Support depends on what is needed and can include personal care, domestic assistance, respite, equipment and essentials, transport and fuel, bereavement counselling, and meaningful moments or last wishes. Mingary Care coordinates and funds support through trusted local providers, businesses and suppliers rather than delivering services directly.

Can Mingary Care help if I already have other services in place?

Yes. Mingary Care works alongside existing health and community services. Having services or funding in place does not automatically mean Mingary Care can’t help. We look at the gap between the support the person has and what they need, including where existing support doesn’t cover enough or can’t start quickly enough.

Do I need a health professional to refer me?

No. You can contact Mingary Care yourself, or someone close to you can get in touch on your behalf. Health professionals and community services can also make referrals.

Is Mingary Care support free?

Yes. There is no cost to the person receiving support and no financial assessment. Mingary Care is community-funded and receives no government funding.

Is Mingary Care a hospice or palliative care service?

No. Mingary Care is not a hospice and does not provide clinical palliative care. We coordinate and fund short-term practical support alongside the health and community services already involved.
