About us

Mingary Care is a not for profit charity delivering free, short term crisis palliative care and end of life care for people on the Sunshine Coast.

We work on a referral basis and engage local community care providers to deliver in-home care on our behalf.

Our Community

Mingary Care exists because of the people around it. Our op shops, regular givers, volunteers and local events fund the practical help we provide, so local money keeps supporting local families when it matters most.

Our Board

Jessica Popple

Chair / Company Secretary

Jessica joined the Board in 2021. She is a Solicitor with Pippa Colman & Associates in Maroochydore and practices in family law, domestic violence, wills and estates matter. Jess is also the Vice President of the Sunshine Coast Law Association and is the Company Secretary for Sunshine Coast Sports, whilst sitting on numerous other committees. Jess is hopeful that her experience in the area of wills and estates can assist the Board in providing those types of services for those who need it in their later stages of care.

Sue Mason-Baker

Sue has been Treasurer since 2010 and became the Managing Director in March 2017. With a degree in Business (Accounting) and having worked at executive levels in acute hospital, primary health and community service settings, Sue brings a broad range of skills and experience to the table. She is a CPA and member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Bev Barton

Director

Bev obtained qualifications as a registered nurse and held senior positions within the hospital system in New Zealand where she and her husband also built and operated an aged care centre and retirement village. Bev has been involved with the charity since 2006 and has always been passionate about end of life care. She is an active and successful fundraiser for the charity.

Michael Goodwin

Director

Michael retired in October 2022 after 22 years as Director of a Financial Planning firm Ethica Private Wealth Specialists Pty Ltd. Throughout his career, he has used his knowledge and experience to enhance the life of those seeking financial advice but also assisting his clients with referrals to other professionals, tradespeople, and anyone else that could assist them to improve their lifestyle. Michael has been involved with Sunnykids and other charities. In his retirement he hopes his professional experience can help Mingary Care support people who are facing palliative care issues.

Bruce Baynes

Director

Bruce has been a Financial Adviser for over 20 years and he is the founder and Director of Sage Care Advice, located in Maroochydore. Aged care is nothing short of a passion for Bruce. Having experienced the emotional rollercoaster of aged care when his father entered care in 2012, Bruce decided there was the need for a specialist financial advice service to support families undergoing the aged care journey of placing a loved one in residential care. Bruce's first aged care client was in 2003, so he has seen many changes occur to the rules around aged care over the years, along with the changing rules to superannuation, Centrelink and the advice profession itself. Bruce's empathetic and understanding approach, combined with his extensive knowledge of the aged care rules, makes him a valued advocate for anyone about to navigate the aged care maze.

Wendy Kinton

Director

Wendy joined the Board in 2025. She started her career as a speech pathologist in acute hospitals where she developed a special interest in end of life and palliative care, and has also worked in quality and safety roles with state and federal health departments. Wendy is a project coordinator in end of life care for Queensland Health with a particular focus on Advance Care Planning, and became an Adjunct Senior Lecturer with the University of the Sunshine Coast after finishing her PhD in 2022.

Wendy Delaney

Director

Wendy brings deep clinical knowledge, practical leadership experience and a long standing commitment to palliative and end of life care to the Mingary Care Board. As Nurse Unit Manager at Dove Specialist Palliative Care Unit in Caloundra, Wendy understands the reality of care from both a clinical and human perspective. Her experience spans hospital, community and outreach palliative care, including in home support, discharge planning, staff education, service coordination and supporting people and those around them through the final stages of life. Wendy's work has given her a clear view of the gaps people can face when time is short and support is not simple to access. Her insight helps strengthen Mingary Care's focus on timely, practical support that eases pressure for people who are dying, and the people around them. Wendy holds a Bachelor of Nursing, a Specialist Certificate in Palliative Care and a Post Graduate Diploma in Palliative Care.

Ready or not, death comes to us all. No matter the age, death seldom happens at the ‘right’ time.
